Baffle Studio is free to use. These terms say what it is, what it is not, and what happens to what you put into it.

What this is

A tool for designing loudspeaker enclosures, run by JHL, LLC. Using it costs nothing and needs no account. An account is needed only to save a project, share one, or add to the driver database.

A simulation is a model

This is the part worth reading twice. Baffle solves a lumped-element model of a driver in a box. That model is a good description of what happens below a few hundred hertz and a poor one above it, where cone breakup and directivity matter and neither is modelled. It assumes the parameters you give it are right, and published parameters describe one sample of a production run rather than the driver in your hands.

So: the curves are a guide to a decision, not a measurement of a thing that exists. Check anything that matters before you cut wood, spend money, or point a loudspeaker at an audience. Baffle is provided as it stands, without any warranty, and JHL, LLC is not liable for what you build with it.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself; what is done through your account is treated as done by you. There is no password reset yet, because that needs email and this site sends none, so a lost password means a lost account. You can delete your account at any time from your account page.

What you contribute

Adding a driver, a radiator, a measured curve or a link to a published test puts it in a library other people use and other people's designs come to depend on. So:

• Contribute only what you have the right to contribute. Published Thiele-Small parameters and your own measurements are fine; somebody else's database, copied wholesale, is not.
• Say where a figure came from. Every parameter set carries its source because a figure nobody can trace is a figure nobody can judge.
• What you contribute stays if you delete your account, with your name taken off it. You grant JHL, LLC a licence to keep it in the library and show it to others for that reason.

Files you import for your own use are a different matter: they are read in your browser, turned into drivers in your own library, and not redistributed.

Fair use of the service

Writing to the database is rate limited. Do not try to get round that, and do not use the site to store or serve things that have nothing to do with loudspeakers.

Other people's names and formats

Baffle reads WinISD's .wdr driver files, and FRD and ZMA measurement files. Naming a format, and the program that writes it, is how anybody can tell what will open. WinISD is Juha Hartikainen's, published by Linearteam; Baffle is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to them, and their name is used only to say which files this reads. Manufacturer and product names belong to their owners and are used to identify the products they name.

Links to tests published elsewhere are links. The measurements stay on the publisher's own page, where the people who did that work can be read and credited.

Availability

The site may be unavailable, may change, and may stop. Keep your own copy of anything you care about: every project exports as a file, and so does everything in your account.

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Vermont, in the United States.
